The past also provides a jumping-off point for Ellen Stavitsky, who recycles old architectural drawings. Embellished with watercolor, gold paint and paper overlays sewn on with metallic thread, they might be taken for commentaries on post-modernism's irreverence for classical precedents. Although elegant and understated, they suggest a deconstructive impulse that flies in the face of classical orthodoxy.
